調査は、子どもの貧困問題などに取り組む国際ＮＧＯ「セーブ・ザ・チルドレン・ジャパン」（東京都千代田区）が６月に実施。
１８歳未満の子どもがいる一定の収入以下の家庭で、同ＮＧＯの食料配布に申し込んだ７８５６人からオンラインで回答を得た。回答者の９４．９％がひとり親世帯だった。
申し込み理由を複数回答で聞くと「物価上昇により十分な食料を買うお金がない」が最多の９０．７％だった。
「長期休暇に入り、給食がなくなるため食費が心配」（６５．３％）や「給与・賃金が上がらない」（５５．９％）などの回答も目立った。
給食以外の食事で米を食べる頻度や量が昨年より減ったかとの質問には「減った」が４３．１％、「やや減った」が３３．１％で、約４人に３人が「減った」と回答。
購入費の捻出については５５．７％が「他の支出を減らしている」と答え、「貯金を切り崩している」（２５．８％）、「借り入れしている」（８．９％）との回答もあった。
